We explored challenges in AI-generated image detection using the innovative Google Gemini-based “Nano Banana Pro” image generator. The prompt was playful: “A woman in a fighting pose holding a banana against the sky with an uninterested cityscape backdrop.” A key discovery is that the newer Nano Banana Pro model presents a unique advantage for evading automated detection tools. Unlike established models such as Midjourney, DALL-E 3, Stable Diffusion, and Flux, which detection software is trained to identify, Nano Banana Pro’s novel generation patterns are not yet recognized. These tools mainly rely on machine learning algorithms that recognize pre-existing models’ signatures, creating a blind spot for newer technologies. As a result, Nano Banana Pro can produce images that more easily escape detection, highlighting the evolving landscape of AI image generation and the challenges it poses for detection software.
