Anduril, a defense tech startup specializing in AI-powered military systems, has topped CNBC’s 2025 Disruptor 50 list, surpassing OpenAI which previously held the position for two years. This year’s list showcases a shift in the startup landscape, where enterprise AI companies dominate, reflecting the transition of generative AI from a mere feature to a foundational element in business operations. Anduril’s ascent follows its strategic acquisitions, including a paused augmented reality project from Microsoft, and a partnership to develop VR equipment for the U.S. Army. Notably, three additional defense startups also made the list, collectively raising nearly $10 billion. The top five startups have a combined valuation of just under $500 billion, highlighting the significant investment in AI-driven enterprise tools. Seventeen of the companies focus on enterprise tech, signaling a growing trend toward embedding AI into daily workflows across various industries.
