Tinder is testing AI tool that will access user photos to suggest better matches

Tinder is testing a new AI-based feature called “Chemistry,” designed to enhance matchmaking by analyzing users’ interests and personalities. By accessing users’ Camera Roll images (with consent), the app aims to combat “swipe fatigue” and provide fewer but more compatible matches. During a recent earnings call, Match Group CEO Spencer Rascoff emphasized that Chemistry will be crucial to Tinder’s 2026 product evolution. The feature will not only use photo analysis but also interactive questions to identify common interests, potentially connecting users with similar hobbies, like outdoor activities. Currently in pilot phase in New Zealand and Australia, Tinder plans further international expansion. Alongside Chemistry, the app is introducing additional AI tools aimed at user safety and profile enhancement. However, concerns regarding privacy persist, as allowing AI access to personal photos may feel intrusive. Despite these innovations, Tinder reported a decline in subscribers and revenue, reflecting changing user preferences towards offline dating.
