Tinder's Solution to Dating App Burnout Is More AI

Dating apps are witnessing a decline in user interest, especially among Gen Z, who feel burnt out from endless swiping. In response, Tinder is incorporating an AI-driven experience to enhance user engagement. The new “Chemistry” feature offers daily curated match recommendations based on user interests gathered through a Q&A and future camera roll scans, aimed at reducing dating fatigue. Though currently available only in the U.S. and Canada, global users can access “Learning Mode,” allowing AI to tailor suggestions through ongoing data collection. Tinder also plans to launch a “Photo Enhance” feature for profile pictures and implement AI safety features like “Are You Sure?” to encourage respectful communication. Meanwhile, Bumble is introducing its own AI assistant, “Dates.” Despite these innovations, surveys indicate that many Gen Z users are wary of AI in dating apps, presenting a challenge for platforms like Tinder and Bumble to regain their appeal.
