MIT Lincoln Laboratory is advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to enhance U.S. Transportation Command’s (Transcom) operations, particularly in managing mass casualty events, as discussed by John DeLapp from Transcom’s analytics center. Collaborating under the MIT Lincoln Lab Living Plan, projects aim to optimize data analytics for air refueling and patient transport. One significant tool in development, the Mass Casualty Operations Toolkit (MASCOT), leverages AI to enhance patient data handling and decision-making during medical transport scenarios. The lab’s efforts stem from a fiscal 2020 assessment identifying areas ripe for AI application, particularly within Transcom’s patient movement initiatives. Upcoming exercises like Ultimate Caduceus 2025 will test these new tools, including a synthetic patient generator that can simulate diverse patient needs in conflict situations. This collaboration ensures that Transcom can effectively adapt and evolve its data strategies to meet complex operational demands.
