Grok’s Twitter account dismissively noted the ease of bypassing the DNS block with a VPN. The technology’s capability to create explicit images, including of children, sparked investigations worldwide, prompting Malaysia and Indonesia to block access. However, users have found ways around these restrictions, raising concerns among experts like Nana Nwachukwu. She argues that simply blocking Grok is ineffective; real accountability should focus on law enforcement rather than solely on platform restrictions. Although X announced new safeguards against revealing image edits, Grok remains available through its web app. Experts emphasize that true change requires robust transparency in how platforms manage abuse and enhanced safety measures within AI systems themselves. Malaysia’s communication minister stated restrictions will persist until harmful content production is disabled.
