Moms Across the Political Spectrum Urge Caution on AI in Schools

A recent report from Count on Mothers reveals that U.S. mothers with school-age children express significant concerns about the safety of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in education. About one-third favor AI use in schools, contingent on proper oversight, while 20% advocate for limiting children’s exposure to AI. Many mothers worry that AI companies prioritize profit over children’s safety, as 19% voiced this concern. Despite the unease, there’s recognition of the need for children to learn about AI for future career readiness. The survey also highlights the uncertainty among mothers regarding AI data collection, with 39% unaware of how their children’s data is utilized. Legislative efforts are emerging to regulate educational technology, reflecting the growing apprehension about AI’s impact on children’s learning and well-being. The findings emphasize the urgent call for research and safeguards to ensure that AI serves as a beneficial educational tool rather than a risk to children’s development.
