Google has reinforced its commitment to Africa’s digital transformation with a new investment plan targeting key areas such as internet connectivity, AI-driven education, and skills training. This initiative includes establishing four strategic subsea cable hubs across Africa to enhance digital connectivity, benefiting economies like Nigeria, South Africa, and Namibia. Additionally, Google offers one-year free subscriptions to its AI Pro plan for college students in select African countries, promoting advanced learning tools. The company aims to train 3 million more individuals by 2030 and has previously supported 7 million Africans in acquiring digital skills. With over $17 million dedicated to African universities and research institutions, Google’s investments also extend to supporting startups through the Google for Startups Accelerator. Alex Okosi, Managing Director for Google in Africa, emphasized that these efforts are crucial for leveraging Africa’s potential and fostering a thriving digital ecosystem. This commitment further solidifies Google’s long-term relationship with the continent.
