Since ChatGPT’s launch by OpenAI, users now have access to seven large language models (LLMs), each tailored for specific tasks. These models include GPT-4o, o3, o4-mini, o4-mini-high, GPT-4.5 (Research Preview), GPT-4.1, and GPT-4.1-mini. However, choosing the right model can be challenging, especially for less experienced users. A proposed “router” function aims to alleviate this issue by automatically selecting the most suitable model based on user input. This enhancement could streamline interactions and enhance user experience, particularly in critical fields like medicine. OpenAI has indicated that future developments, including GPT-5 and GPT-6, may incorporate this routing capability, potentially reshaping public perception of AI. As ChatGPT expands its user base—reaching 500 million active users—greater efficiency and smarter capabilities could drive wider adoption of AI technologies, influencing workflows and productivity across various sectors.
