ChatGPT’s mobile app is experiencing a decline in growth, according to Apptopia’s latest report. Global downloads are projected to drop by 8.1% in October, a slowdown that began in April. Despite millions of daily downloads, the app’s expansion appears to be peaking, with global daily active users (DAUs) stabilizing. The slowdown is attributed to increased competition, particularly from Google’s Gemini, which excelled due to its new AI image model, Nano Banana. Concurrently, user engagement metrics in the U.S. have declined, with average time spent per DAU dropping by 22.5% and sessions per DAU falling by 20.7%. However, user retention has improved, as fewer new users are abandoning the app. As the AI landscape advances, ChatGPT faces challenges in sustaining growth, necessitating strategic adaptations to retain and attract users amid rising competition.
