Users boycott ChatGPT after OpenAI signs Department of War deal

An increasing number of ChatGPT users are transitioning to other AI chatbots following OpenAI’s recent contract with the US Department of War. Announced on Friday, this deal comes in the wake of the Trump administration’s attempt to cancel a contract with Anthropic, whose CEO, Dario Amodei, expressed moral objections to using AI for military surveillance and weapons. In a heated response, Trump criticized Anthropic’s stance, while highlighting a potential designation of “supply chain risk.” As a result, Anthropic’s chatbot, Claude, has soared to the top of Apple’s free app charts, surpassing ChatGPT. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman defended the Pentagon agreement, asserting that it includes safety protocols against misuse, such as mass surveillance. This has led to a boycott movement among ChatGPT users, with calls to switch to Claude, emphasizing the potential for easy data transfer. OpenAI has yet to respond to this backlash.
