VSCO adds its first AI-powered photo editing tool

The VSCO app, renowned for its professional-grade photo editing tools and community of photographers, is venturing into AI with its new feature, “Remove.” This tool enables users to erase unwanted elements from images while maintaining full resolution, akin to Google’s Magic Eraser. Leveraging Black Forest Lab’s FLUX.1 model, VSCO aims to deliver authentic results. The company is also developing an “Upscale” tool to enhance image resolution without altering color or composition, all under its new AI Lab initiative. CEO Eric Wittman emphasized that these tools are designed to support photographers rather than replace traditional editing methods, prioritizing image quality and authenticity. VSCO’s AI features, available first on iOS with plans for Android, require a Pro subscription, which also offers a comprehensive suite of editing tools and presets. This move illustrates VSCO’s commitment to evolving with technology while preserving the integrity of creative work.
