Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is pioneering an artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to anticipate staff sick calls, thereby minimizing disruptions and costs associated with staffing. Developed by a team led by Jennifer Crawford, PhD, this machine learning model analyzes years of historical data to predict future sick calls across various clinical programs. Unlike traditional methods, the AI model assesses complex data patterns, providing clinical managers with a user-friendly dashboard integrated into their existing systems. A pilot program is set to launch soon, allowing managers to validate predictions against real outcomes. Trust and transparency remain priorities, with a governance framework ensuring ethical AI use. This predictive sick-time model is part of Waypoint’s strategic vision for AI integration by 2025-26, which also includes tools for medical documentation and patient care. With these innovations, Waypoint aims to enhance operational efficiency and improve mental health care quality.
