WeBuyCars, a JSE-listed South African vehicle trading platform, has launched two innovative AI tools—“Blue” and “Orange”—aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and driving growth. The customer-facing Orange, a large language model (LLM), facilitates seamless user interactions and proactive support for customers and employees. Chief Digital Officer Wynand Beukes emphasizes its role in streamlining workflows. Conversely, Blue is a backend machine-learning engine that leverages extensive data for accurate vehicle valuations, autonomously pricing and buying over 2,800 vehicles without human intervention. This AI partnership augments human expertise, handling routine tasks while allowing humans to manage complex cases. WeBuyCars also operates a hybrid model combining e-commerce with physical locations, including 17 vehicle supermarkets. Its agile experimentation platform fosters rapid testing and implementation of new ideas. By integrating AI, data analytics, and agile methodologies, WeBuyCars is leading digital transformation in automotive retail, ensuring a balance of automation and human insight, enhancing quality and trust in its operations.
