WhatsApp is enhancing its ‘disappearing chats’ feature to boost user privacy by introducing shorter expiry times—one hour and twelve hours—alongside existing options of 24 hours, 7 days, and 90 days. This feature ensures conversations are permanently deleted and non-recoverable, even by WhatsApp. Currently available in beta version 2.25.24.18, these timers offer flexibility, although WhatsApp warns users that a one-hour timer may leave messages unread before disappearing. This change addresses user feedback about the rigidity of the previous 24-hour minimum. In addition, WhatsApp is rolling out new AI-powered features, including a writing assistant that helps users craft messages with improved tone, style, and context. Users can choose AI-enhanced versions or stick with their original messages. These updates reflect WhatsApp’s commitment to both privacy and user convenience, showcasing its focus on refining the messaging experience for its users.
