WhatsApp has launched an AI-driven feature, “Writing Help”, designed to enhance message composition. This innovative tool allows users to reframe, proofread, and adjust the tone of their texts, with options for professional, lighthearted, or empathetic styles. Utilizing Meta’s Private Processing technology, the feature ensures that all communications remain end-to-end encrypted, safeguarding user privacy from both Meta and WhatsApp. The Writing Help function is optional and disabled by default, affording users complete control over its use. Initially available in English in the U.S. and select countries, broader language support is expected soon. By incorporating this feature, WhatsApp positions itself as a competitor to external AI services like ChatGPT. Users can activate Writing Help by tapping a new pencil icon while composing messages. Additionally, WhatsApp is testing a voicemail-like feature allowing brief audio messages if calls are unanswered, enhancing communication flexibility without disrupting current chat functions.
