E Ink, known for its readable displays in eReaders, has introduced a new touchscreen trackpad designed for AI interactions, rather than as a laptop screen extension. This innovative trackpad features a color E Ink display, allowing normal trackpad functions like swiping and tapping. When not in use, it can serve as a second screen for shortcuts, notifications, and AI-generated content. Leveraging various Intel technologies, the trackpad is designed to function even when the laptop is off, although critics argue the concept is impractical as it forces users to look down and avoid covering the screen. Past attempts at similar features, like ASUS’s ScreenPad, have not gained popularity despite being more functional. While E Ink claims its design will be more power-efficient, the practicality of a display in a trackpad remains questionable, with no release date announced yet for this “AI PC” feature.
