World, co-founded by Sam Altman, has launched AgentKit beta, a developer toolkit that enhances its World ID proof-of-human system for AI agents. This integration with Coinbase’s x402 protocol allows confirmed humans to cryptographically delegate their identity to AI agents while maintaining anonymity. Erik Reppel, Coinbase’s Head of Engineering, emphasized that while payments address the “how” of agentic commerce, identity answers the “who.” As the project evolves, concerns over biometric data collection persist, with various global regulatory challenges highlighting privacy issues. Critics argue that building an identity layer on biometrics poses systemic risks, especially when applied to AI agents. With nearly 18 million verified users across 160 countries, the AgentKit beta is geared for developers holding a World ID.
