The smart car segment is evolving with the introduction of Grok, X’s AI chatbot, now integrated into Tesla vehicles through the 2025.26 software update. This advancement comes ahead of Google’s Gemini AI, making Grok the first conversational AI assistant in cars. Currently in beta, Grok focuses on information exchange and does not command vehicle functions yet, although it allows users to ask questions and engage in dialogue.
Exclusively for U.S. Tesla owners, Grok will be standard in new models delivered after July 12, 2025, while existing vehicles must meet specific criteria, including having an AMD processor and updated software. Drivers can interact with Grok similarly to how they would with the X app, enhancing their driving experience. Although Grok currently lacks command issuance capabilities, future updates may enable deeper integration. This development positions Tesla at the forefront of AI in automotive technology, potentially outpacing competitors like Google.
