At the annual YouTube Impact Summit, YouTube unveiled new initiatives focusing on expanding AI tools and enhancing user safety in India. A report by Oxford Economics highlighted that YouTube contributed over ₹16,000 crore to India’s GDP and supported 930,000 jobs last year, with 63% of monetizing creators relying on it as their primary income source. Gunjan Soni emphasized YouTube’s commitment to creator infrastructure and skills development through strategic partnerships with institutions like the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and the College of Nursing at AIIMS. These collaborations aim to provide industry-relevant webinars and extensive nursing courses to over 5,000 healthcare professionals. Additional updates include a conversational AI tool for user queries, an AI-based editing feature in the YouTube Create app, and enhanced First Aid information shelves for health-related searches. YouTube also introduced daily scrolling limits for Shorts for users under 18, reinforcing its safety focus.
