Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, is heavily investing in artificial intelligence, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing plans to allocate “hundreds of billions of dollars” to create massive AI superclusters. The first supercluster, Prometheus, will launch next year, while another ambitious project, Hyperion, is expected to scale up to five gigawatts of compute capacity in future years. This strategic move aims to position Meta as a leader in AI, as it competes with industry giants like OpenAI and Google.

Zuckerberg emphasized the establishment of Meta Superintelligence Labs, which will house top researchers and engineers to enhance AI development. The company’s renewed focus on AI talent follows a $14 billion investment in Scale AI and aggressive hiring of experts from leading tech firms. With these initiatives and capital expenditure expectations of up to $72 billion by 2025, Meta is determined to strengthen its AI capabilities and close the competitive gap in the market.
