Dealers Seek Enhanced AI Solutions as Generic Tools Prove Insufficient

Dealers are shifting their focus on AI from broad enthusiasm to seeking targeted, practical applications, according to a Lotlinx survey of 215 U.S. dealership executives. The survey reveals a disconnect between generic AI tools, like ChatGPT, and the actionable AI needed to enhance dealership operations. A staggering 84% of dealers report failing to derive value from these general tools, with 66% expressing doubts about their understanding of dealership processes. In contrast, 87% of executives are interested in an inventory-specific AI advisor, emphasizing the demand for specialized tools that improve inventory management and maximize ROI. Despite a 54% weekly use of generative AI for tasks such as marketing and vehicle descriptions, its effectiveness in addressing critical business challenges remains limited. Industry experts, like Randy Kobat from Lotlinx, advocate for targeted AI solutions tailored to the automotive retail sector. Providers that develop such insights, particularly around inventory and risk, will likely lead the market.
