Cornell College students Jillian Witt and Liam Borer Seabloom are innovating financial forecasting by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs), like ChatGPT, as part of the Cornell Summer Research Institute (CSRI). Under the guidance of Associate Professor of Finance Huan Cai, they aim to develop a user-friendly app that enhances existing financial forecasting methods, making them more accessible and cost-effective for retail companies. Witt, a finance and religion major, is conducting outreach and competitive analysis, while Borer Seabloom focuses on coding with Python and OpenAI’s API to extract user-friendly financial data. Professor Cai emphasizes that effective sales forecasting is crucial for equity valuation, marking the initial step in their research. This initiative not only aims to streamline financial operations but also promotes AI innovation in the industry. The CSRI program wraps up on July 11 and showcases Cornell College’s commitment to cutting-edge research and education.
