Teachers, like students, can benefit from hands-on learning with generative AI, but they require a clear vision in addition to tech training to effectively solve classroom problems. A study by the Center on Reinventing Public Education at Arizona State University evaluated over 80 educators from 18 California schools participating in the Silicon Schools Fund’s “Exploratory AI” program during the 2024-25 school year. Teams learned to develop AI tools that catered to diverse student needs, encouraged collaboration, and improved behavior management. One notable innovation was a chatbot designed to enhance communication and collaboration among teachers, utilizing tools like the Enneagram personality assessment. Another tool generated restorative practices for disciplinary incidents, allowing quick responses while maintaining a focus on building strong student-teacher relationships. The findings suggest that successful AI integration hinges on addressing specific classroom challenges rather than merely enhancing efficiency, stressing the importance of a solid instructional model.
