Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming classroom learning, prompting educators to consider its role in enhancing student assignments. Priyanka Parekh, an assistant research professor at NAU, explores how undergraduate students can use GenAI as a learning partner through her project funded by the TRAIL program. This initiative focuses on building AI literacy skills to help students ethically engage with AI tools. With grants awarded to 14 professors, including researchers in various fields, the program aims to integrate GenAI effectively into STEM education. The research emphasizes understanding student interactions with GenAI for academic tasks and encourages equitable AI use in education and industry. For instance, Chris Johnson from the School of Communication aims to teach students how to utilize AI as a collaborator in the creative process while maintaining authorship and ethics. Through these efforts, NAU seeks to prepare students for a future where AI is integral in various professional fields.
