Over the past year, Google has been transitioning from Google Assistant to its new AI assistant, Gemini, across Android devices. With One UI 7, Galaxy users can now activate Gemini via the side button. The shift will extend to Android Auto, where Google has begun phasing out Google Assistant. Recent updates to the Android Auto app have demonstrated this change, with ‘Google Assistant’ rebranded as ‘Manage your digital assistant.’ Although tapping this option still activates Google Assistant, it indicates that branding alterations are underway. Google plans to implement a server-side switch to fully replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android Auto soon. Additionally, Gemini has already taken over Google Assistant’s role on Galaxy Chromebooks and is expected to debut on Galaxy Watches with the forthcoming One UI 8 Watch update. This strategic move follows the removal of Google Assistant from Samsung’s smart TV lineup last year.
