OpenAI is facing increased competition as Sensor Tower data indicates that ChatGPT’s user growth has slowed to just 6% over the past three months, reaching around 810 million monthly active users. This stagnation signals potential market saturation for the chatbot leader, which previously enjoyed explosive growth. Meanwhile, Google’s Gemini has surged by 30%, largely thanks to its innovative Nano Banana image generation model, making significant inroads in user engagement. With Gemini users spending over 11 minutes daily in the app, its user base is quickly closing the gap with ChatGPT. Although ChatGPT holds 55% of the global market share, it has lost three percentage points in four months, while Gemini gained three points. The competitive landscape is tightening, with other players like Perplexity and Claude also experiencing substantial growth. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has called for renewed focus on personalization and reliability, emphasizing the shifting dynamics in the AI chatbot market.
