Google expands Gemini, NotebookLM, and AI tools for education

Google has unveiled significant updates to its AI education tools, including Gemini and NotebookLM, emphasizing AI integration in teaching and research. Announced at the ASU+GSV Summit, these updates aim to enhance AI literacy and educational workflows. A partnership with ISTE+ASCD will provide free AI training to 6 million K–12 and higher education educators, launching on May 13, 2026. This initiative includes career certificates and monthly training modules. Additionally, Google has initiated a research affiliate program with Purdue University, University of Alabama, and UC Riverside, focusing on boosting research capabilities with advanced AI infrastructure.

In classrooms, Google expanded NotebookLM’s capabilities for educators, introducing tools for quizzes and audio summaries. Gemini is now accessible within Moodle, integrating features like summarization and NEET exam preparation. Furthermore, Google is enhancing data portability for graduating students, enabling transfers of Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail content, aimed at improving account management post-graduation. These innovations underscore the increasing role of AI in education.
