A recent survey by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) reveals that artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming India’s business environment, enhancing efficiency and innovation. According to the report, approximately 67% of Indian AI startups focus on application development, while 76% of companies leverage open-source technologies for cost reduction and improved accessibility. Major tech players like Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI significantly contribute to this open-source landscape. AI adoption is accelerating across various sectors, including banking, e-commerce, healthcare, logistics, and retail, enabling automated decision-making and personalized services. However, the CCI cautions that businesses neglecting AI risk falling behind in a competitive market. Shivanghi Sukumar from Axiom 5 emphasizes the importance of addressing emerging risks such as algorithmic collusion and data accessibility. The CCI aims to foster an innovative AI ecosystem in India while ensuring fair competition and protecting consumer interests against potential anti-competitive practices.
