Meta has appointed former OpenAI researcher Dr. Yang Song as research principal for its Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), following recruitment by Mark Zuckerberg. Starting this month, Song will report to Shengjia Zhao, an OpenAI veteran leading the MSL initiative since July. Renowned for his influential research, Dr. Song has significantly advanced AI capabilities, particularly in diffusion models that generate realistic images and text. He previously led the strategic explorations team at OpenAI and has been instrumental in developing AI systems, including foundational techniques for OpenAI’s DALL-E 2. Additionally, Song will join Caltech as an Assistant Professor, focusing on high-dimensional data and complex reasoning.
