Microsoft has introduced an AI system that outperforms human doctors in complex health diagnoses, paving the way for potential “medical superintelligence.” Developed by Mustafa Suleyman’s AI unit, the system mimics a panel of expert physicians and successfully solved over 80% of diagnostic case studies, compared to just 20% by human doctors without collaborative resources. The AI model, paired with OpenAI’s technology, is also touted as a more cost-effective option due to its efficiency in test ordering. Microsoft emphasizes that AI will complement rather than replace doctors, as their roles involve navigating patient care dynamics beyond mere diagnostics. While claiming the AI could achieve near-error-free performance in the next 5-10 years, Microsoft acknowledged that further testing is necessary before clinical application.
