Microsoft’s latest AI tool, according to Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of its AI division, marks a significant advancement towards medical superintelligence. This tool can diagnose diseases with four times the accuracy and reduced costs compared to human physicians. The technology, developed from 304 case studies in the New England Journal of Medicine, utilizes the Sequential Diagnosis Benchmark to replicate the diagnostic process of doctors. The MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO) integrates various leading AI models, enhancing diagnostic accuracy to 80%, exceeding the 20% accuracy of human doctors, while reducing costs by 20%. Microsoft’s research demonstrates the potential of AI in healthcare, but it also highlights concerns about biases in training data. Although commercialization plans are undecided, integrating this technology into Bing for diagnosis assistance is being considered. This initiative reflects Microsoft’s intention to prove AI’s effectiveness in real-world medical applications, aiming to lower healthcare costs substantially.
