The competition for AI talent is heating up, with major companies like Meta intensifying recruitment efforts. Recently, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg attempted to poach Andrew Tulloch from Thinking Machines Lab, which was founded by ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Although Zuckerberg offered a staggering $1.5 billion over six years, Tulloch chose to remain with the startup, recently valued at $12 billion following a $2 billion seed funding round. Meta has continued its aggressive strategy by offering $250 million to researcher Matt Deitke, who initially declined a $125 million offer. The AI talent war isn’t exclusive to Meta; Microsoft has also hired numerous employees from Google DeepMind, including Amar Subramanya, while Google has recruited talent from AI startup Windsurf for its DeepMind division. As the AI landscape evolves, companies are prioritizing securing top talent to enhance their technological advancements and maintain competitive advantages.
