Sam Altman’s OpenAI is reportedly considering acquiring Pinterest, a move that could enhance its position in online shopping and digital advertising. This speculation comes from a report by The Information titled “Sutskever’s Fate, OpenAI’s Next Deal, A Hit Robot – and 13 Other Predictions for 2026.” Following the news, Pinterest shares rose 3%, indicating investor optimism despite the absence of official confirmation from either company. OpenAI is particularly interested in Pinterest’s extensive image database, established advertising framework, and merchant relationships, which could complement its own image and video generation capabilities. Currently, Pinterest’s stock trades around $25, valuing the company at approximately $17.5 billion, with co-founders controlling nearly two-thirds of its voting power. As Pinterest integrates AI features like conversational search to compete with platforms such as ChatGPT, the potential acquisition by OpenAI could position the AI firm to better compete with industry giants like Google.
