OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Academy for News Organizations, a new initiative aimed at helping journalists, editors, and publishers integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their newsroom operations. Developed in collaboration with the American Journalism Project and The Lenfest Institute for Journalism, this effort was unveiled at the AI and Journalism Summit. The Academy offers on-demand training such as AI Essentials for Journalists, practical use cases for investigative research, multilingual reporting, and data analysis, alongside guidance on responsible AI usage, including governance frameworks. Building on existing partnerships with prominent media organizations, this initiative aims to address trust, accuracy, and job impact concerns while promoting innovation in news production. OpenAI plans to expand the Academy by 2026, introducing new courses and live programming to foster responsible AI adoption in journalism. This is essential as AI continues to transform newsroom operations globally, reaching audiences in over 20 languages.
