The 67th Executive Committee (EC) meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in New Delhi focused on leveraging AI and advanced scientific tools for the rejuvenation of the Ganga River. Led by Director-General Rajeev Kumar Mital, the committee emphasized pollution abatement and approved several research projects aimed at enhancing scientific understanding in the Ganga basin. Key initiatives include monitoring Himalayan headstream glaciers, developing a digital twin for the Ganga, conducting SONAR-based riverbed surveys, and creating a geospatial river database. A critical project on glacier melt runoff was approved for ₹3.98 crore, led by the National Institute of Hydrology. Additionally, the ‘Youth for Ganga, Youth for Yamuna’ initiative, with a budget of ₹39.37 lakh, aims to engage over 250,000 youth in river conservation education across Delhi and NCR. This multifaceted approach integrates cutting-edge technology and community involvement to drive water conservation efforts effectively.
