Innovations like smartphone cough analysis and child-friendly screening systems promise faster, more accessible diagnostics, particularly for underserved communities. Guy Marks, president of the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, highlighted AI’s potential in combating TB, which claims around 1.25 million lives annually, according to the WHO.
Examples include an AI-driven breath analysis system from China’s Southern University and cough analysis software from India’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences, showing high accuracy in TB identification. Additionally, an AI vulnerability mapping tool aims to identify communities at risk of undiagnosed TB cases in India. The Qure.ai child screening tool is also noteworthy, providing an AI-powered X-ray diagnostic specifically for children. Ensuring these tools reach those in need while validating their effectiveness remains crucial for impactful TB care.
