In a transformative partnership, Nscale, Aker ASA, and OpenAI are launching Stargate Norway, a groundbreaking renewable-powered AI infrastructure in Narvik, Northern Norway. This initiative, OpenAI’s first gigafactory in Europe, aims to deliver 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs by late 2026, scaling its capacity significantly over time. The project emphasizes secure, efficient, and sovereign AI workloads, fully compliant with European regulations. Powered by renewable energy, the facility will initially offer 230MW of capacity, with plans for an additional 290MW. Leveraging Narvik’s abundant hydropower and cool climate, Stargate Norway will not only create jobs but also foster local academic collaborations for AI research. This venture represents a strategic milestone for Europe’s AI landscape, driving economic growth through sustainable infrastructure. Collaboratively, Nscale and Aker are committing around USD 1 billion to establish the site, poised to meet the increasing demand for AI computing resources in Europe.
